Boise State wide receiver Shane Williams-Rhodes missed the first game of his collegiate career on Saturday, ending his run of 24 consecutive games played.
The sophomore had his left ankle rolled up on against San Diego State on the second-to-last play of regulation last Saturday.
Williams-Rhodes did not suit up against New Mexico and he was seen on the sideline with a boot on his left ankle.
"Shane is going to have some surgery (on Sunday)," said Boise State head coach Chris Petersen after the game. "It’s not a real extensive surgery."
Petersen added he is hopefully Williams-Rhodes will recover in time to play in the bowl game.
Williams-Rhodes particpated in all 13 games as a true freshman in 2012 and started eight of the first eleven contests of 2013.
His 77 total catches are tied for a team-high and are just five short of the single-season school record set by Jeremy Childs in 2007.
