Boise State men’s hoops team miss out on AP Top 25, but picks up plenty of votes

The Boise State men’s basketball team received 22 points and checked in at No. 32 in the initial release of the Associated Press Top 25 on Thursday.

The Broncos are coming off a season in which they finished 21-11 and earned the school’s first-ever at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament.

Led by fourth year head coach Leon Rice, the blue and orange are the only team in the country to return all five starters off a team that went to the NCAA Tournament last spring.

That group includes star guards Anthony Drmic and Derrick Marks. The two were the highest scoring duo in the Mountain West a year ago, averaging a combine 33.6 points per game.

Boise State has never been ranked in the AP Top 25 before. Last season they received 22 points in the Week 5 poll following an 83-70 victory at No. 11 Creighton. They dropped out in Week 6 but reappeared in Week 11 after they opened up conference play with a 63-61 win in Laramie against Wyoming.

The Broncos host Lewis-Clark State in an exhibition on Friday at 7:00 p.m. MT at Taco Bell Arena. One week later they will take the same court against UT-Arlington for Boise State’s first official game of the season.
