The Boise State men’s basketball team was pick to finish in a tie for second in the Mountain West Preseason Media Poll on Tuesday.
New Mexico, the defending regular-season and tournament champions, were picked to repeat. The Lobos received 23 of 24 first-place votes and tallied up 263 points all together - 49 more than both Boise State and UNLV.
The Broncos return all five starters from last year’s team that finished 21-11 and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Every season since head coach Leon Rice took over the program four year ago the Broncos have outperformed their preseason projection.
In addition, both juniors Anthony Drmic and Derrick Marks were selected to the Preseason All-MW Team. Drmic returns as the league’s leading scorer, having averaged 18.8 points per game in Mountain West play last season. Marks led Boise State in field goal percentage, free throw percentage, steals and assists as a sophomore in 2012-13.
Boise State will host Lewis-Clark State for an exhibition on Nov. 1. Their first game that counts will be against UT Arlington on Nov. 8 at Taco Bell Arena.
