BOISE— Chicago Cubs first round draft pick, and second overall pick in the 2013 draft, Kris Bryant has been promoted to the Class Advanced-A Daytona Cubs, a source told KTVB on Monday. The third baseman joined the Class Short-Season A Boise Hawks on July 23.
In just 18 games with the Hawks, Bryant had 23 hits for a .354 batting average. He hit four home runs, a triple, and eight doubles, and knocked in 16 RBI.
On the same day that he was called up, Bryant was also named Northwest League Player of the Week. During the week, Bryant went 9-for-17 with three doubles, a triple, a home run, and five RBI. He also extended his hit streak to 15 games, the longest in the league this season.
Bryant was told that he was being promoted while enjoying a team outing at a Boise water park. He is expected to leave for Daytona on Tuesday morning.
