Former Boise State golfer Graham DeLaet shot a 3-under 68 at the opening round of the AT&T National at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD, on Thursday.
DeLaet was 1-under through 14 holes, then birdied No. 15 and No. 16 to drop to 3-under. He wrapped up his round with two pars and is currently tied for second overall.
Roberto Castro is in first following an opening round 66.
DeLaet is putting together his best stretch of golf since earning full-time playing privileges on the PGA Tour back in 2010. He has not finished outside the top-26 at a tournament since the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on April 28, and last week he tied a career-best with a third-place finish at the Travelers Championship.
Round two of the AT&T National starts early Friday morning. DeLaet will tee off with John Rollins and David Mathis at 4:53 a.m. (MT).
- Nampa-native Robert Garrgius shot a 1-over 72 on Friday. Outside of a triple-bogey on No. 2, he recorded four birdies and two bogeys. He is currently tied for 44th place.
- Moscow’s Chris Williams had a rough finish to his first round. Playing in his second career event since turning professional, Williams was 1-over through 11 holes. But the University of Washington alumnus shot 6-over on his final seven holes, which included double-bogeys on No. 13 and No. 16. Williams will have a lot of work to do on Friday in order to make the cut.
